About

Essential oils are one of the main elements of aromatherapy. They are mostly used for their therapeutic effects.

Essential oils are particularly known for their distinct scents and fragrances. This is because they chiefly come from the fragrant essence of the plants. Common aromatherapy plants include eucalyptus, rosemary, rose, and chamomile among many others.

The oil itself is produced by either by expression or steam distillation. Plants such as peppermint and lavender for instance, are distilled in order to extract their oil. On the other hand, citrus peels such as sweet oranges and lemon balms are expressed through mechanical means.

Since the ancient times, essential oils are used for their therapeutic and enigmatic effect. They are mostly believed to simulate the body and the mind. Essential oils such as chamomile and lavender are known to relax and calm the nerves. They are excellent stress relievers and they aid in sleeping.

Essential oils also help ease a number of disorders and illnesses. Lavender for example, has antiseptic properties that can cure sore throat, sinus congestion, and infections.

Ginger and peppermint also have excellent healing properties. They are ideal for headaches and muscle soreness. They can also be used to combat nasal and sinus congestion.
